KOREAN BLOCKCHAIN WEEK WAS LIT!

Wow! I was flown recently out to Seoul (first time) to film with my friends Deadfellaz, a super cool NFT collective shaking things up in the Web3 space, to film the pilot episode of our new show, Culture On-Chain! I had such an incredible experience, from the incredible Deadfellaz adjacent artists I got to meet, film and learn from, the Seoul quenching ancient and futuristic culture of Korea I got to be immersed in, to the whole new horizon of NFTs and Web3 I got to get “onboarded” for by my new found friends. A little info on our project from Betty one of the founders of Deadfellaz:

This September, DFZ is headed to Seoul, Korea to bring the pilot episode of ‘Culture On-Chain’ to life. This series, produced by DFZ, and filmed and edited by Matt Boman of Studio Boman, will focus on highlighting the positive activations and developments across the globe in the crypto/web3 space, through the lens of creators and culture-makers — telling the stories of the people utilizing blockchain and building culture on-chain for lasting legacy and positive social change.

Seoul, Korea is fast becoming a global hub for Web3, with a government-level eagerness to back blockchain tech, AI, digital creators and culture-makers. This September, we see Korea Blockchain Week, Seoul Fashion Week, and Frieze Seoul converge in one action-packed week — and we will be there to document it all.

Crypto and Web3 often get a bad rap on mainstream media, and so we want to highlight and amplify the positive stories unfolding in this space every day. These global gatherings that happen multiple times a year act as a hot-bed for networking, the start of new journeys, and opportunity for emerging artists. So much goes on in these weeks and I believe we’re lacking in content that showcases the positive to people outside the space. I want creators to see this series and recognize the real culture and value behind it all, maybe jumping in themselves and seeing where they go. — Betty

For the first few days of the trip, I felt like a grandpa hearing about all this Web3 jargon that was like Greek to me! Gas fees, cold wallets, something called “Hopecoin”. Slowly, over the course of the week, the group of eight artists I was filming each took me aside and had a moment with me where they patiently explained a certain aspect of the Web3 space to me. A process I now know as “Onboarding”. Wow! Look at grandpa go!

I really landed back in LA so full of inspiration in a way I hadn’t felt in a long time. I hadn’t been slapped in the face by my lack of knowledge of a field for so long, it was refreshing to be so thoroughly out of my element and is Seoul to boot!. Those sweaty palms and awkward shifting around in your seat are the telltale symptoms of LEARNING! A disease we could all be infected by a little more. Having been back a week, set up my .eth domain, my hardware ledger and an account on Open Sea and MetaMask (who was our sponsor no doubt) I’m ready to dip my cinematic toe into the Web3 space. So keep an eye and a smart contract out for the surprise I’ve got in my sandbox!

NEW SITE IS LIVE!

We here at Studio Boman are never ones to rest on our laurels (heck we want more laurels)! So we took a week of in-between time that we had to spruce up our digital abode, do you like it? If so leave a comment!

We had a perfectly functioning site for years, but it just wasn’t FUN! So now we’ve maximized some new Squarespace templates to kick this thing into high gear, and make it more enjoyable for you “End Users”, but this isn’t the end, and you aren’t being used! It’s just the beginning, and we’re working together. So stay tuned and check back in for new updates via this newfangled blog (wow haven’t typed that word in 15 years!) and as they say in the meme, Rest Here Weary Traveler, For Great Adventures Lie Ahead…
